The city of Laguna Hills was built located in one of the major real estate land grants developed during the famed Rancho Era. Mexico acquired it's independence from Spain in 1821, the government officials or those who had friends in authority, were given land for cattle grazing. Rancho Lomas de Santiago, Rancho San Joaquin, and Rancho Niguel covered much of the western portion of the Saddleback Valley. Don Juan Avila was granted the 13,000 Rancho Niguel on which Laguna Hills is located.

In the year 1874, Lewis Moulton acquired the Rancho Niguel real estate from Don Juan Avila and he also increased the original land granted to twenty two thousand acres. Lewis Moulton with his business partner Jean Piedra Daguerre, used the ranch for raising sheep and cattle. The sprawling Moulton Ranch was divided around 1960, part of that land is now called Laguna Hills. The city incorporated itself in 1991.

The history of the famed St. George´s Church in Laguna Hills

The story begins in the late eighteen hundreds when the El Toro Land and Water Company donated land for what would one day become the very first church in the Saddleback Valley, called St. George's Episcopal Church. The Whiting and Keating families donated funds for the church and it was completed in 1891. The building was a charming white color, and was made entirely of redwood, as were its original furnishings. The mission was originally ran by traveling priests who were also responsible for the growth for Anaheim, Tustin, Santa Ana and Orange.

In the sixties with the unveiling of Leisure World and the development of the city of Mission Viejo, the church received a new influx of families.

The construction of a new activity center began at the turn of the millennium and was completed in  2001. The new hall has a fellowship area for five hundred people, a new state of the art kitchen, hip youth lounge, updated music department, and also some additional space for the St. George Academy and other miscellaneous activities. The campus also has a columbarium and a labyrinth.

The St. George Academy offers schooling for grades pre-kindergarten to 8th grade, as well as nursery school and also after school child care for over 200 families. The academy challenges the minds of all the students with a superb curriculum and small classes. The subjects studied include computer, music, art physical education and foreign languages. Of course correct moral guiding and worship are integrated into the program.
