Laguna Niguel Real Estate
Laguna Niguel is like a beautiful modern sea village. Homes are nestled in the lush green hills. Real Estate in Laguna Niguel is a mix of spanish and modern style.

The name for the city "Laguna Niguel" is from the Spanish word for lagoon "Laguna," and from the word "Nigueli," which is where an Indian tribe called the Juaneno's once had a village which was located near Aliso Creek. California became Mexican territory in 1821, and many ranches or rancheros were established in Southern California, including one called Rancho Niguel. At this time, the Rancho Niguel was used mostly as a sheep ranch.

There was a private landowner names Juan Avila, who was a resident of San Juan Capistrano. He obtained land through a special Mexican land grant in 1842. Juan was successful in re-establishing his title to Ranch Niguel after California became US territory in 1848 and he remained the owner of "Rancho Niguel" until 1865. Control was moved to a private company in 1895, the "Rancho Niguel" land was acquired by the Moulton Company, this company would eventually control over 19,000 acres of Southern California ranch land.

The start of the Laguna Niguel we see today was the establishment of the Laguna Niguel Corporation in 1959 done by Cabot and Forbes, which made it one of the only master planned communities in California. Victor Gruen & Associates was hired to develop detailed community plans for the 7,100-acre site. The land sales started in 1961 starting with Monarch Bay and the Laguna Terrace subdivisions. The firm Avco, a community developer purchased the Laguna Niguel plans in 1971 and started more developments outlined in the original Master Plan.

In the early years developing Laguna Niguel the Laguna Niguel homeowner association, which later became the Laguna Niguel community council, served the community advising the Orange County Board of Supervisors regarding land use issues.

Laguna Niguel residents, looking for local governance, took the first step toward Cityhood by forming a Community Services District in 1986. Three years later Laguna Niguel was declared the 29th City in Orange County.
